…
If you’re a book blogger, or reviewer….
You know what this is like.
You read a book. You LOVED the book.
You love it so much you can barely sleep.
You NEED to write a review for it.
You NEED to SCREAM AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS TO THE WHOLE WORLD ABOUT THIS BOOK AND HOW MUCH YOU LOVE IT!
You get to your desk, whip open your laptop or slam a piece of paper on the desk.
…
Nothing happens.
Why won’t all the love just… turn up as words?
Why do we need to think of the words? Especially when all our brain is supplying us with is :
I have read a lot of books, and I adored a lot of these very books. But it wasn’t until I started blogging that I ever even thought of writing a review for books. Even then I thought that a review post wouldn’t be read.
I only decided to write reviews because I could only contain so much sqUEAL!
It had to be let out.
I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you from that.
But now, recently, literally these past few months. I decided to make a point of writing reviews for the books I’ve read.
But a few of the books I loved have gone review-less. Not including the short sentences and “Review to Come!” ‘s I wrote on goodreads. If I ever added them on goodreads… if I even HAD goodreads at the time.
On a Goodreads note, clicking on the covers will take you straight there so you can ogle at these books too!
I’m linking this up with TTT, today is a Freebie! I found this prompt in the depths of the TTT archive and had to do it! When I say depths I mean 2011 depths… I was 12 when this prompt came out… oof.
Top Ten Tuesday is Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl!
Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett
I honestly… don’t know why I didn’t? This was one of my most anticipated read this year and I ADORED IT SO MUCH ASJKFKBJHBFAW
I even found a draft for a review that I wrote straight after I finished it…. but nothing ever came of it. I’d need to reread to write a review, which I WOULD!
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
In my defence, I read this book and the next 4 before I had a blog. It was before I even knew there was a bookish community online actually. So it was just me and my thoughts. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TEARS I SHED ALONE BECAUSE OF EMPIRE OF STORMS?!?! TOO MANY!
To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
I read this, this year too. I had a blog. I loved it. I’m always ready to scream about standalone fantasy books.
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
I read this before I had a blog or knowledge about the bookish community too. See: Screamed alone.
Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
Again. Before the internet came to mind for “Places I can scream about books.” However! This was the first book I bought with my own money! I always used to read books from my school library, and I had the sudden shocking thought that I would soon be leaving school. New plan: Build my own library at home!
Cinder (and the entire Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer
Also, before I had a blog. Or internet.
This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada
I had a blog when I read this. In fact every book following on this very list… I read this year… when I had a blog.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
AngelFall by Susan Ee

Black Bird of the Gallows by Meg Kassel
Although! I did kinda, give a mini review for some of these innnnnnnn THIS POST! if you’re interested!
Are there any books you loved but didn’t/haven’t written a review for?? Which ones?? Do you write reviews on a blog? On Goodreads? Anywhere else?? Have you read any of these books?? Shall we SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE?!?
Haha this is such a great post! I absolutely relate to you on this one and I always find myself asking the question of why is it always so much harder to write a review for a book you love rather than a book you disliked/hated?! The struggle is real. Some of these I also didn’t write reviews for even though I already had a blog! I don’t even know why but I’m pretty sure I also wrote “RTC” on Goodreads 😂But some I also read before my blog existed but I’d definitely need to go back and re-read them to write a review! Great topic choice for this week’s freebie 🙂

Thank You! ❤ I know right?? Maybe it's because with books we dislike we can pinpoint what exactly we didn't connect with in the book. But when we love a book… we can't pinpoint exactly what we loved so we just scream incomprehensibly about that book! HAHAA THE AMOUNT OF BOOKS I HAVE RATED AND LEFT A "rtc" ON GOODREADS IS CRIMINAL!! *hides from shame*
I definitely want to reread some of my old favourites, so maybe I'll actually write a review for them the second time round! MAYBE?!?!?

I hate when I look up a book to see my thoughts about it and the review is blank. In the early days of Goodreads I would just rate a book and not write a review. I try to make a point to get something down now because I know my memory is terrible. Too many books to keep up with. 😉

Me too. I was flicking through my Goodreads clicking on any and every favourite books I had rated like “There has to be words on this one!” There were no words. Why are there no words? 😦
I’m definitely writing a few sentences at least on goodreads and then if I have the motivation and the drive to, I will write a full review! Yay for writing my thoughts down at 2am when I finish a book so that morning me can write an understandable review! 😀

Serious Moonlight looks so good, I love that cover too with them just hanging out in a cafe or wherever it is? Black Bird of the Gallows looks amazing too!

My gosh, Serious Moonlight was amazing! It was so cute! The Cafe wasn’t a huuuuge part (it was where the 2 MC’s met, but the story itself didn’t take place there) but if you love yourself a mystery/detective story with a heaping side of fluff. This book. This is the book you need.
BBotG was also a breath of fresh air in the paranormal romance world! I loved it! I have the second book (not connected to the first one) on my Christmas list!

That’s so awesome to know. I’ve been honestly wanting to read Jenn Bennet since Starry Eyes came out, since the whole camping thing appealed to me plus the primo cover! then I saw this one too and it also looks awesome haha! So yeah… one of these days I’m going to try her stuff. 🙂

I loved Starry Eyes too!! (yet another book I didn’t review *face palm*) Jenn Bennett has become an auto buy author for me, so I highly recommend giving her books a go! I hope you enjoy them if you try them! I enjoyed all her books but I’d say it’s best to start with a book that involves something you’re interested in first! That way you’re not only picking up a book you are actually interested in, but you’re also seeing if you enjoy the flow of the authors writing before delving into her other works! (I hope this makes sense?? I feel like it doesn’t???) Happy Reading! ❤

LOL. I laughed so hard at this because I SO feel you. I’m a bit obsessive about writing reviews, though. I only don’t review a book if it’s a re-read that I’ve already reviewed on my blog. Otherwise, I review everything, even if I have to post five reviews in a day to catch up! Review OCD – it’s a thing!
Happy TTT!

I feel so much pressure to write a review perfectly to show just how much I loved a book! WOAH! That you can prepare them all in advance to post 5 a day is amazing, I am in literal awe. I really need to step up my reviewing game!

It’s sometimes harder to write reviews for books I love. This is a quick, great way to give them some love.

I totally agree!! But sometimes I find I’m hesitant to write bad reviews too? Like, I’m not going to pretend I loved the book, but I feel bad if I say I don’t like it and put someone off the book, when they themselves might just really enjoy it??
At least we try our best with positive reviews!! We all gather in huddle formation to excitedly squeal about our favourite books!
Happy Reading! ❤

Yes, I know that problem all too well. Your explanation of it was quite funny!

I know right? If only there was a way to translate thoughts into words immediately without all the writer block! Thank you! ❤

I love how you make a valiant effort to explain these at first and then eventually devolve to reaction gifs. (Honestly, Sad Tennant is a pretty functional review on its own. Gets the whole mood across in one shot. While being inherently hilarious).
I definitely have a “reread before reviewing” shelf for books childhood/middle school that I am SURE I enjoyed, but either can’t remember anything specific about, or think are 5 stars and thus want fresh in my memory before I try to explain why (hey there Witch of Blackbird Pond, Call of the Wild, Magic Elizabeth).

HAHAAHA! Thank you! I tired my best, but then found that words could not express the amount of guilt I felt at having not written a review for some of my favourite books… 😦
OOoo! I have a few books that I read when I was 12 that I remember enjoying but yet… can’t remember much about?? Definitely need to reread those! I like the idea of having a shelf for books I read ages ago but need to reread to either write a review or to continue the series! I might need to reorganise my bookshelves!!

It’s a shock to me to go to a book I loved (from the distant past, usually) and to find that I have not reviewed it.

Right?? Like I’ve been screaming and raving about these books all over the place! In TTT lists and on instagram… but I never actually reviewed them?? What??? How???
