June 2018 Wrap-Up

Another month has once again flown on by. And we are now being forced into July.

WAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT!!! I’M NOT READY YET!!!

For June this year (and for July I think) the goal was to read as many fluffy contemporaries as possible. I even made a list of the once I wanted to get to.

Books I’ve Read:

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas – I gave this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars. This is kinda cheating but I finished the last 100 or so pages at the beginning of June. But I’m counting it anyway :3

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas – I gave this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars. This wasn’t so much an individual book as it was a book that would help build up the next instalment in the ACOTAR spin off series. But it was nice considering the way ACOWAR finished. We got to see some of the precious beans being precious *stares at Cassian and Azriel because they are the beans* which was what I liked most about it. (Full Review)

Geekerella by Ashley Poston – I originally gave this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars when I reviewed it. But now that I think about it, I think it was more of a 5 star read. I adored this book so much, it was so fluffy and squishy and I couldn’t put it down. I’ve put it on my list for future re-reading. (Full Review)

Under Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall – I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars. This book made me laugh. Like literally giggle. Norah was so relatable though?? The books focus is around her mental health, the main character has Agoraphobia and OCD, and i felt like it was written so well. There were parts in the book where things got dark (!!there was a few parts in this book that involved self-harm!!) but then things would lighten up again. It was a nice read though, I flew through it.

Paper Butterflies by Lisa Heathfield – I gave this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars. I’m going to warn you guys first that this book dealt with some pretty strong topics. It dealt with racism, psychological and physical abuse. This isn’t the kind of book I usually pick up (it wasn’t on my fluffy contemporary list of books that I was suppose to read). I wouldn’t recommend reading this one if you are down in the dumps about humanity.

Night Owls by Jenn Bennett – I gave this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars. This book is about art. I can’t draw and despite my overwhelming urge to be creative I doubt I’ll ever be able too. (Literally, they say practice makes perfect but I’ve tried so many times and I can’t draw anything). But it wasn’t your average kind of art, I’m talking Graffiti and Medical art. Oh, this book is a fluffy contemporary too… between the two artists. I actually listed one of Jenn Bennetts’ books on my list (the Top Ten Tuesday list I made) but it wasn’t this one XD

I’d say I had a pretty successful reading month! 5 books isn’t bad at all!! And the majority of them are contemporary books too! *puffs up with pride*

Currently Reading:

I’m not currently reading anything (I still feel like reading contemporary fluff so I won’t e picking up King’s Cage yet) but I’m thinking about picking up Made You Up by Francesca Zappia.

(^^ HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THAT COVER?!!?!!!??)

Anime:

Hehe *nervous laughter*

I’ve watched quite the bit of Anime considering I was trying to read a lot of contemporaries. I didn’t think I had watched a lot, but looking back at how many I have watched….

I watched:

Both of these were anime movies.

Princess Mononoke (1997) and Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) – both of these movies have English Dubbed versions and they were friggin’ awesome. Howl’s Moving Castle is literally my new favourite movie ever.

Image result for beyond the boundaryImage result for Blood+

These were anime series.

Beyond the Boundary (2013) – This one was so good. I’m gonna re-watch it I think. It only has one series and then there is an hour long movie afterwards that ties everything up.

Blood+ (2005) – I’m actually still watching this one. It’s 50 episodes long and I’m on episode 36. There seems to be a movie after this one too. So far it’s good, the story is really interesting.

I think when I finish watching Blood+ I’ll write a review post about these???

  1. I added Paper Butterflies to my TBR because sometimes I love books that make me feel something. I probably wont read it right away. I read the sampler and felt sick to my stomach! I also read Geekerella and adored it! It was so cuteeee. I also like how one of the sisters wasn’t a huge jerk like in most Cinderellla stories. Glad to see you had a pretty decent reading month 😀

    1. Paper Butterflies was definitely an emotional read. I actually felt outright disgusted at times.
Geekerella is probably at the top of the list of “Books that are too cute to exist” :3 I know right?!! I was so surprised about one of the sisters being more sympathetic and friendly. It was like reading a new fairy tale, it was a refreshing take on the tale that’s for sure 😀
Thank You, I’m glad too! I am crawling my way up the walls of this reading slump pit XD
