What started out as a yearly mission in finding and recording release dates, like the friggin’
stalker enthusiast I am, turned into me…. buying like 9 books…. without meaning to…. It was a complete accident
…. No it wasn’t. I confess.
I just saw the shiny new books and lost all sense of self-control. If we are all honest, sometime these kinds of losses of self-control can lead to immense happiness… after the regret and fear that someone is going to judge you and your parents give you the whole; *disappointed sigh* but then they don’t actually say anything but you can SEE IT IN THEIR EYES…..
It is good to splurge once in a while. It’s healthy….Right?
Either way, there’s no going back now, I have to keep them. I am keeping them….
I decided to list the books I bought in case anyone else might be interested 🙂
1) The Fandom – Anna Day
Violet and her friends love being part of the fandom for The Gallows Dance. But at Comic-Con, they’re somehow catapulted into the story itself – for real. Trapped in a twisted world where they’ve accidentally killed the original hero, Rose, there’s only one way to survive: Violet must fill Rose’s shoes and put the plot back on track. No story is worth dying for … is it?
It’s a book…. about fandoms…. in which the main characters get to live out the story they fangirl/boy over…. I needed no other reason as to why I would want this book.
I need this book…. plus I bought it on Amazon… plus it wasn’t full price…. so I bought it….
2) To Kill a Kingdom – Alexandra Christo
Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most – a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever.
The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavoury hobby – it’s his calling. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good. But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy?
Sirens. Ocean sailing. There may potentially be pirates (I’m not gonna risk missing out on pirates if there are).
Fun fact this book was released yesterday (06/03/18)…
Again I needed it… It’s important…. for my collection…
On a more serious note, there aren’t many books about sirens in YA. Not books that become super popular anyway…. Maybe this one will change that… Ha, another reason it was important for me to buy this book… seriously though…. I would love more books about mermaids/sirens (or both…. combined in one book, that would be interesting) I recall reading a few good ones written on Wattpad…. I remember really enjoying them.
3) Illuminae – Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman
The year is 2575 and two mega-corporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice covered speck. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them Ezra and Kady have to make their escape on the evacuating fleet. But their troubles are just beginning. A deadly plague has broken out on one of the space ships and it is mutating with terrifying results. Their ships protection is seriously flawed. No one will say what is going on.
As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth its clear only one person can help her. Ezra. And the only problem with that is they split up before all this trouble started and she isn’t supposed to be talking to him.
Spaaaaaaace. Spaceships. Mutating plagues……
I have seen this book talked about all over the place and everyone seems to love it… so I thought that I would buy it so that if I ever felt in the mood to read it then I would be able to…. The thing that’s keeping me away from this book is the format it’s written in… The story is told through documents, e-mails and like transcript-ish stuff…
I’m scared that I’m going to not like the format…. I don’t wanna be that One Guy who doesn’t like the book when everyone else loves it….
But who knows… I may love it…. I could start raving about it ….. I’ll know when I read it…
4) The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender – Leslye Walton
Foolish love appears to be a Roux family birthright. And for Ava Lavender, a girl born with the wings of a bird, it is an ominous thing to inherit. In her quest to understand her peculiar disposition and a growing desire to join her peers, Ava ventures into the wider world. But it is a dangerous world for a naive girl – a world which may view her as girl or angel. On the night of the summer solstice celebration, the skies open up, rain and feathers fill the air and Ava’s journey and her family’s saga reaches a devastating crescendo.
This was a little bit of a compulsive buy… but I don’t regret it. It does sound interesting… I mean a girl was born with bird wings… how much more intrigue does a book need.
Also… what is this “Devastating Crescendo” ? I need to know…
I haven’t heard of a book with such unique qualities before…. I really want to read it…
5) Until the Beginning – Amy Plum
Because this is a sequel to the first book, I will put the synopsis for After the End – Amy Plum
Juneau grew up fearing the outside world. The elders told her that beyond the borders of their land in the Alaskan wilderness, nuclear war had destroyed everything. But when Juneau returns from a hunting trip one day and discovers her people have been abducted, she sets off to find them. And leaving the boundaries for the very first time, she learns the horrifying truth: World War III never happened. Nothing was destroyed. Everything she’d ever been taught was a lie.
As Juneau comes to terms with an unfathomable deception, she is forced to survive in a completely foreign world, using only the skills and abilities she developed in the wild. But while she’s struggling to rescue her friends and family, someone else is after her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about her secret past.
I mean…… I know that dystopian books have become a re-occurrence in YA, but there are still some that are uniquely different, I think (hope) that this one is one of those…
I’ve been wanting to read some more dystopian since I finished the Angelfall Trilogy by Susan Ee… that could be why I bought it….
I’m excited none the less…. I think I might jump to this duology next, just because I’m very intrigued about this secret past????
6) Reign the Earth – A. C. Gaughen
Shalia is a proud daughter of the desert, but after years of devastating war with the adjoining kingdom, her people are desperate for an end to the violence that has claimed so many of their loved ones. Willing to trade her freedom to ensure the safety of her family, Shalia becomes Queen of the Bone Lands, a country where magic is outlawed and the Elementae–those that can control earth, air, fire and water–are traitors, subject to torture . . . or worse.
Before she is even crowned, Shalia discovers that she can bend the earth to her will. Trapped between her husband’s irrational hatred of the Elementae and a dangerous rebellion led by her own brother, Shalia must harness her power and make an impossible choice: save her family, save the Elementae, or save herself.
I’m sure a lot of you know about this book, it is one of my most anticipated books of the year… It’s become quite the buzz more recently…
It has magic, and Elemental magic at that. The evil king dude, who doesn’t like magic dude, turned main characters husband dude… I don’t know what more we could want from a book… It sounds to good not to pick up.
I mean the cover is beautiful…. extremely captivating…. and hypnotising……
is it witchcraft?
7) An Illustrated History of Notable Shadowhunters and Denizens of Downworld – Cassandra Clare (Illustrated by Cassandra Jean)
Featuring characters from Cassandra Clare’s international best-selling novels from the Shadowhunters world including The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices and The Dark Artifices, this anthology showcases beautifully illustrated portraits from Cassandra Jean – creator of The Shadowhunter Tarot – alongside never-before-known details from Cassandra Clare about all your favourite characters.
I couldn’t stop myself…. I needed it…. It’s very important to me.
I read some of this already an it made me laugh, it definitely made me smile on several occasions.
” Despite a shared interest in music, Jace and Simon Lewis have only collaborated once, on a some titled Come Back, Meow, dedicated to Magnus Banes’ cat. “
It’s funny cause I can imagine it happening… poor Chairman Meow.
Also the artwork is gorgeous…
I also ordered the following but they have yet to be released …. I did the Pre-order thing… I couldn’t stop myself.
8) Flame in the Mist – Renée Ahdieh
Mariko has always known that being a woman means she’s not in control of her own fate. But Mariko is the daughter of a prominent samurai and a cunning alchemist in her own right, and she refuses to be ignored. When she is ambushed by a group of bandits known as the Black Clan enroute to a political marriage to Minamoto Raiden – the emperor’s son – Mariko realises she has two choices: she can wait to be rescued… or she can take matters into her own hands, hunt down the clan and find the person who wants her dead.
Disguising herself as a peasant boy, Mariko infiltrates the Black Clan‘s hideout and befriends their leader, the rebel ronin Ranmaru, and his second-in-command, Okami. Ranmaru and Okami warm toMariko, impressed by her intellect and ingenuity. But as Mariko gets closer to the Black Clan, she uncovers a dark history of secrets that will force her to question everything she’s ever known.
The paperback version of this is released tomorrow (08/03/2018) and I have been internally screaming since I found out …. I really to read this… it feels like it was released ages ago… The hardcover was way too expensive and so I had to wait ;_;
But SOOOOOOONNN IT WILL BE MINE!!! ALLLLLL MIIIIIINEEEEEEEEEE!!!
9) The City of Brass – S. A. Chakraborty
Among the bustling markets of eighteenth century Cairo, the city’s outcasts eke out a living swindling rich Ottoman nobles and foreign invaders alike.
But alongside this new world the old stories linger. Tales of djinn and spirits. Of cities hidden among the swirling sands of the desert, full of enchantment, desire and riches. Where magic pours down every street, hanging in the air like dust.
Many wish their lives could be filled with such wonder, but not Nahri. She knows the trades she uses to get by are just tricks and sleights of hand: there’s nothing magical about them. She only wishes to one day leave Cairo, but as the saying goes…
Be careful what you wish for.
Magic. Djinn. Spirits. In Egypt. I’m sold.
This book is also released tomorrow (08/03/2018)…. yes ….. I also pre-ordered this one…. a while ago….
Which is a good thing ’cause it’s getting a lot of good reviews as of late… my pre-release judgement skills win again WOOOOOOO…..
or maybe I’m just psychic???
I highly doubt that this will be my last endeavour of ‘spontaneously purchasing books’ …. every time I get money whether I’ve earned it or been given it for Birthday/Christmas, my mind goes straight to “pay for anything you need now … then what’s left is for books” . This is logical……. probably…. I hope it is….
What are you’re most recent buys? I would love to know. 😀
I will probably find it and buy it because of my extreeeeeeeeme lack of self-control when it comes to buying books… I don’t think it’s a big issue… yet…
Good night. Or Good Morning. ❤
